Nepal - Teaching in Kathmandu

The resources at the schools are basic and it can be challenging to teach without much equipment! You will be expected to teach English and can incorporate other subjects according to your own area of expertise, maybe sports, music or drama.

Opportunities currently in place include: Niketan Orphanage and School for Street Children; Deneb School (primary & secondary); and the Kumbeshwar Technical School and Orphanage.

No specific qualifications are needed except a good level of general education and lots of enthusiasm and imagination. Volunteers can work for various lengths of time and at various locations. We can generally arrange timetables to suite the skills of the volunteers and the needs of the school.

Volunteers with good IT skills would also be able to help with training at the 'Yangrima ex-student society (YESS)' - a group who provide literacy and computer training to students who have been forced out of the Helambu region by Maoist activity. These students were some of the first to benefit from MondoChallenge volunteers before their school had to sadly be closed due to the political situation.

Interested? To find out about the next step to becoming a volunteer, read our application process.
