Ecuador - Teaching in Salango

10-minutes drive south of Puerto Lopez, Salango is a much smaller, sleepier town, with a few restaurants, a big church and a pool hall.  It is very easy to get to Puerto Lopez, by bus or moto-taxi.

Here on the coast, you eat all sorts of fish, prawns, octopus and even lobster very cheaply! Soup and plantains also feature highly in the daily diet here, but very little meat is eaten (if at all).  Surfing is very popular along the coast.

There are approximately 250 students at the Escuela Felicísimo Lopez; 6 full-time teachers and 2 part-time staff members and the headmaster is particularly keen to have volunteers. As the school is bigger than the one in Puerto Lopez, there are more resources, but still little English is taught.

Volunteers can also help with other subjects such as art and IT, and previous volunteers have organised after school sports clubs.  In addition there is always the possibility to teach adult classes or help out at the well-renowned museum.

Volunteers have their own en-suite room with a local family, the uncle of which owns the El Pelicano restaurant across the square. One daughter lives at home, & as she attends the Escuela Felicísimo Lopez she can show you around!
