MondoChallenge Teacher Training Sessions
We offer intensive modular weekend courses which offer a foundation in the essential elements of English language teaching to young learners in developing countries. The courses provide classroom ideas where few or no materials are required (ideal for placements in remote areas!) and teaching practice in a supportive and interactive environment.
Trainees will cover the following:
- An overview of grammar and the relation between structure and function
- Awareness of the problems involved in presenting and practising vocabulary
- A focus on pronunciation
- Lesson planning
- Classroom management and group dynamics
- Correction and recycling techniques
- Using techniques such as singing, simple drama, games and activities with an emphasis of making teaching fun
These weekends are run by an experienced TEFL teacher who has been teaching English as a foreign language to students from around the world for the last five years, and was herself a volunteer in Nepal for six months.
The groups are small, with no more than 8 people on a course, and there is also time for a Q & A session on the second day with a member of the MondoChallenge UK staff.
These courses are open to non-volunteers and take place approximately every two months. Present costs are £100 for volunteers and £150 for others.
The location is in Oxford (unless otherwise stated) and the dates for 2008 are: May 17-18, Jun 28-29, Sep 13-14, Nov 22-23.
